Robert Proctor est professeur d’histoire des sciences à Stanford University. Son livre le plus récent s’intitule Golden Holocaust. Origins of the Cigarette Catastrophe and the Case for Abolition (University of California Press, 2011), traduit en français en 2014 aux Editions des Equateurs. Codirecteur, avec Londa Schiebinger, d’Agnotology. The Making and Unmaking of Ignorance (Stanford University Press, 2008), il a également publié The Nazi War on Cancer (Princeton University Press, 1999 ; traduit en français sous le titre La Guerre des nazis contre le cancer, Les Belles Lettres, 2001), Cancer Wars. How Politics Shapes What We Know and Don’t Know about Cancer (Basic Books, 1995), et Value-Free Science ? Purity and Power in Modern Knowledge (Harvard University Press, 1991). Il revient ici sur son parcours intellectuel et sur le sens qu’a pour lui l’« agnotologie ».
